In 2017 I was training for the Three Capes Hike in Tasmania, and I got hooked on bush walks and realised this was something I wanted to share with people, so Stella’s Horizon Adventures started but since it has had a slight name change Stellar Fitness Horizon Adventures.

Each month I choose a location, not too far out of Melbourne (some carpooling is available with me); I get cooking and prepare some snacks and everyone brings their lunch and choice of beverage (I’m still looking at having a coffee machine in my car).

Once we arrive, we go for our bush walk where adventure and exploration awaits – physical health, connection to nature, social interaction, mental wellbeing and stress relief.

These are the benefits of getting out in nature:

Walking in natural settings provides exercise that improves cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and endurance. It’s a low-impact activity that can be adapted to different fitness levels.

Being in nature has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The peaceful surroundings and fresh air can improve mood and mental clarity.
Walking in natural environments allows you to immerse yourself in the beauty of landscapes, observe wildlife, and appreciate the natural world. This connection to nature can foster a sense of awe and gratitude.
Bush walks can be a social activity, whether with friends, family, or through organized hiking groups. It provides an opportunity for meaningful conversations and shared experiences.

As we age social engagement is vital for our wellbeing. It is something that I try to incorporate in all facets of Stellar Fitness.

The combination of physical activity and being outdoors can reduce cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and promote relaxation.
Exploring new trails and landscapes can be exciting and adventurous, providing a sense of accomplishment and discovery.

What do I need to bring?

  • You will need to wear comfortable clothes and layer up. The benefit of layers is that you can remove a layer as you warm up.
  • You will need a sunhat or beanie, and sunscreen depending on the season.
  • At least 2 litres of water as some sites do not have water that is able to be consumed.
  • A small backpack for your lunch and belongings. Try not to have too many things hanging off it, as it is meant to be an enjoyable bush walk.
  • It is preferable to have hiking boots, if not the other option is to have sneakers with a good tread.

Walking poles

It is totally optional whether you have walking poles or not. Most of the walks that I organise will be of a medium grade.

These walks are ticketed events through our Humantix account.  We like to give fees that we are charged, to a charity and we feel Humantix aligns with our values.

I look forward to meeting you soon.
